Duo arrested while transporting copper cables in Koppies

Resilient response by the Koppies police arrested two male foreign nationals while transporting copper cable in Koppies on Tuesday, 23 November 2021.

These illegal immigrants are believed to be from Zimbabwe.

Officers attached to Koppies SAPS, Constable Papi Khiba; and Sergeant Steen Mokoena, followed up information about a suspicious motor vehicle transporting illegal items on the R82 road.

Upon arrival, they spotted a white closed truck with GP registration number and stopped it.

Members requested the driver to open the back of the truck, but he instead tried negotiating a bribery, which members refused.

Police found bundles of copper cables and arrested the driver and one passenger. The second passenger managed to escape.

Furthermore, police seized the white one ton truck and copper cables.

Investigation reveals that these copper cables might be stolen in Burgersdorp, Eastern Cape. The pair will face possession of suspected stolen property; illegal immigrant; and driving without a driver’s license.

They will appear before the Koppies Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 24 November 2021.
