Thabong cops pounce on illegal shebeens, confiscate booze

A swift response from designated police officers confiscate large quantity of alcohol from local shebeens operating illegally without valid liquor licenses in Thabong.

Welkom SAPS spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said that a joint operation that includes members of Designated Police Officers (DPO), Sergeant Pio Ntseki, Warrant Officer Jaco Heys and Warrant Officer Daniel Rautenbach took out large quantity of liquor and destroyed to clear the SAPS stores.

The clean-up operation was rolled out in Thabong areas on Wednesday, 17 November 2021.

“Residents are requested to inform the Police about illegal shebeens so that they can be closed,” cautioned Thakeng.

He added: “Members are emphasizing complaince to Liquor Act regulations especially during Festive Season. Mostly shebeens are Crime generators so if it’s reported and closed, it means lesser crimes.”

He further more warned that more visits will be conducted to liquor outlets to enforce compliance to the law.
