Police stop suspected robbers in Kroonstad

Two suspected business robbers stopped in Kroonstad after fleeing Vredefort on Thursday, 07 October 2021.

At around 21:00, Highway Patrol received a call from Client Service Centre after spotting a car plafed on the lookout by Vredefort SAPS.

Two of the suspects fled on foot are realising police were on them.

A driver (40) was arrested and the vehicle was confiscated. Cigarettes allegedly stolen during a business robbery in Vredefort were found and also seized.

Prior to this arrest, Vredefort police received a complaint of business robbery at Mandela Section in Mokwallo.

A 40-year-old complainant alleged he was at his business when one suspect entered the shop holding a 9mm pistol and fired a shot in the air.

Two other suspects entered the shop and told the complainant to lie down. They took R5 000 cash and cigarettes. Perpetrators fled the scene in a black Ford Figo with Gauteng registration number plates.

Activation plan was done and the vehicle was stopped in Kroonstad SAPS.

After arresting the first suspects, SAPS was called to a scene in Reitz Street vicinity, Kroonstad.

A man with a gun shot wound to the stomach was found and taken to the hospital under police guard.

During preliminary investigation, this injured male was linked to this robbery. It was however unclear how he sustained the injury.

He will be charged with business robbery and sent to court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.

On the other hand, a 40-year-old suspect in police custody, will also be charged. He is expected to appear before Vredefort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 October 2021.
