On Thursday, 16 September 2021, Matjhabeng Municipality electrical workshop suffered a cable theft by 18 men.
It was around 02:45 when a guard posted at the workshop was returning from a foot patrol within the premises to the guard-room. Apparently, he saw four unknown African men approaching the guard-room and tried to exit but was confronted. He was forced inside was tied up with a cellphone charging cable. The unknown men forced the guard to a store room that was already broken into.
There were 18 unknown African men carrying the electrical cable out of the store room towards a hole broken through the precon wall. Thereafter, a call was made to inform someome that they got ‘the stuff’. Even though one of them had a handgun, no shots were fired.
Suspects left the scene on foot. It is unknown whether a vehicle was used thereafter.
Stolen copper cable valued R108 000. A case of Business Robbery was registered for further investigation.
