Justice served for rapist after raping minor aged (15)

Zamdela: Justice was served for a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping a 15 year-old minor following the rape incident that occurred last year in September.

He was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison on Wednesday, 25 August 2021 at Sasolburg Magistrates’ court.

The court heard how the accused was at the victim’s home on Friday, 04 September 2020.  The mother was not home as she was in hospital.

It was reported that the mother’s boyfriend told the 15 year-old girl to go with him to his residence to get food as they have none in their house and the girl innocently went with him.

The court further heard that on their arrival, he asked the girl to cook for him with a paraffin stove and went to his friend to ask for dagga. 

On his return, he asked for food and the victim told him that it is not ready.

He then told the victim that he want sleep with her. When the victim responded that her mother taught her not to sleep with men as she is still young, he closed the door, slapped her with open hand and raped her.

The case was reported on Saturday, 05 September 2020 for further investigation.  Sgt Mokhethi Makhooe of Zamdela Family violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit effected the arrest of the suspect. Const Margaret Mthembu of (FCS) thoroughly investigated this matter and ensured that the suspect and docket reaches court. 

She managed to oppose bail of the accused, which was denied for him to stay in jail throughout the trial period until he was sentenced 20 years imprisonment.

Mr. Tsolo prosecuted while Magistrate Ngewu passed the sentence.

The Acting District Commissioner of Fezile Dabi District Brig Mapulane Mbeloane lauded the members for ensuring that the perpetrators of horrible crimes against women and children face the wrath of the law. 

“Removing them from the communities for lengthy periods will bring hope and safety to women and children in our communities,” a statement read.
