BLOEMFONTEIN– Three suspects between ages of 30 and 56 appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Friday, where they faced allegations of fraud, theft and contravention of the public finance management act (PFMA).
They were arrested today in the early hours of the morning by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Team based in Bloemfontein.
The accused includes of, Boitumelo Poonyane, Makhosazana Princess Mholomi, Maletsatsi Eveline Maseme. Their case has been postponed to Friday, 10 September 2021 for jurisdiction of trial.
Maseme and Mhlomi released on R5000 bail each. Ponyane Released on R2000 bail.
Their arrests stems from the incident which took place in December 2019, where three officials from the Department of Public Works in Bloemfontein, unlawfully captured and approved the payment to the Company known as Walton Trading Enterprise CC without approval to the estimated amount of R24 million.
The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation for further investigation which culminated to the arrests of the trio.
The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Kubandran Moodley welcomed the arrest and commended the outstanding work by the investigating officer.
