A 46-year-old man faces a life sentence judgement for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
The judgement was handed down by the Welkom Regional Court on Friday, 23 July 2021.
According to SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, on 19 January 2019, at around 20:00, the girl was at her stepfather’s house in Thabong, Welkom.
“The man gave her glass of water to drink and instructed her to sleep on the bed without clothes on. The little girl followed the guide as she was told,” addressed Captain Thakeng.
“The 46-year-old then raped his stepdaughter. When he wanted to repeat the horrendous act, the victim then told him she could not take it anymore. It was only then that he stopped. The perpetrator however, slept the night with his victim,” he added.
It is alleged, the following day, the stepfather gave his stepdaughter his house keys and told her to come back, but the girl never returned back home.
When the 11-year-old victim arrived home, her sister asked where she was the previous night. The girl explained her ordeal and was immediately taken to the police station to report the incident.
A case of rape was registered for further investigations.
The case was assigned to Warrant Officer Tshediso Qhamakoane of Thabong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The officer worked tirelessly on gathering enough evidence for the case.
Following his apprehending, the perpetrator remained in police custody until he was sentenced by Welkom Regional Court.
The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Major General Lerato Molale lauded the investigating officer WO Qhamakoane, for a sterling job and ensured that those who commit heinous crimes on children are sent to jail.
