Another delay: Tswelopele mayor’s theft case postponed again

The troubled Tswelopele municipality mayor, Kenalemang Phukuntsi is set for another day in court, after the Hoopstad Magistrate Court postponed her theft case to June next month.

The embattled politician, made her appearance today in the dock facing a handful theft cases, assault and crime injuria.

According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the investigation is at an advanced stage.

“The R2 000 bail has been extended, and the case will continue on 8 June,” added Thakeng.

Phukuntsi’s charges came after her alleged visit to foreigners shops, claiming they sold expired products and confiscated their items as a result.

The mayor then pocketed items such as cosmetics, vegetables, groceries, pampers, petrol and diesel cleaners.

Items stolen are of an estimated value of more than R60 000.

The police registered five cases of theft and crime injuria and the 51-year-old mayor was issued with an arrest last month on April 8 at her home, Hoopstad. She then appeared before the Hoopstad Magistrate Court, and received R2 000 bail.

The case was postponed to April 22 for investigation, and once again postponed to today.
